My Summer in a Jar

God blessed me almost unbelievably with two wonderful, curious, musical, smart, and super cute little boys. These two little guys keep John and me on our toes and often test our patience, but the joy and love they bring to us each day is what I dreamed of as a pre-mom gal.

As I wrote in an earlier post, this past summer was probably my favorite so far. Our boys are growing up and becoming more capable and independent. This provides all kinds of fun opportunities. One of which we call “adventures.” An adventure is anything done outside with an exploration agenda. We went on many adventures. This is proof that I am officially a boy mom. I am the type of person who generally prefers a bug-free, air-conditioned room with a couch and a good novel over most outdoor activities.

My older son, who my sister lovingly refers to as The Big Kahuna (the younger one is Tiny Tuna), and I started a collection of treasures on our adventures. We saved these treasures (really, just pretty rocks) in a jar on our counter along with the boys’ favorite pine cones. As I cleaned my kitchen this evening and looked at those shiny little rocks, I took a moment to give thanks. That jar isn’t just filled with stones; it is filled with an entire summer of memories of walks, trips to the beach, and endless hours at the park. How wonderful.

Where do you keep your treasures? (Luke 12:33-34)

Peace and Blessings,

The Displaced City Girl

  1. Jaimie,
I love reading your posts. Many times they take me back to when my boys were little. So much love, joy, fun, mischief, adventure all wrapped up in those two adorable little men.
