A Small Town Independence Day

John and I had a couple of options this year for the 4th.  We were excited to be sticking around home, and decided to go to Westfield, ND, to celebrate independence day the small town way.  It was my first time in Westfield for the 4th, and I had no idea what to expect.  Saying I was pleasantly surprised would be a complete understatement.

Westfield is a town of about ten people, I really don’t think I am exaggerating on that.  A few houses line the street (yes, singular) and a large church towers over a beautiful grove of trees.  I felt like I traveled back in time as I sat on the back of the tailgate and watched the parade go by, twice.  After the parade, everyone traveled to the church yard for foot races, tug of war, a cow pie toss, and concession food.

A day like this really makes me proud to be an American and so happy that I live in small town USA.

God Bless,
The Displaced City Girl
