The Black Hills Stock Show

Holy buckets!  Sorry I have not written in a while, folks.  John and I left last Friday for Rapid City, and this week flew by!  I hope all of my readers are doing well and enjoying this sunshiny day.

Last Friday I left school a bit early.  John picked me up, and mind you not very discreetly.  As I walked out of the building he honked the horn, so I am certain kids looked out the window wondering where in the heck I was headed.  He really does think he is funny.  I am pretty sure Chester, who was very excited in the backseat, knew we were headed out to Rapid which means he gets to see his BFF, Norman.  Our first stop was Katie’s house.  We dropped Chester off and then John, Katie, and I dined at the Elk Creek Steakhouse.  The food tasted delicious after saving my appetite all day.

When we finally got into town, we checked into the Alex Johnson hotel.  This year we decided to stay downtown and not worry about taxi rides at the end of the night.  The hotel is very old and has a cool rustic feel.  However, the best part is that AJ’s Wicked Salon is right downstairs next door to a Seattle’s Best Coffee.  I was in heaven.  After we checked in, John and I walked to the civic center and met up with Katie’s mom and dad and John’s cousin and his fiance.  It was a lot of fun.  We enjoyed some dancing and people watching.  Stock shows and rodeos are a few of the only places where a person can get down to “Apple Bottom Jeans” while rockin’ Ariat’s and Cinch jeans.  We had a fun time.

Saturday was my favorite day of the weekend.  We woke up, got some coffee, John went back to bed, and I headed to Wicked for a facial.  It was magical.  Morgan, the facial goddess, treated my hands to a paraffin wax, wrapped me up in luxurious bedding, and not only did I receive my facial, but a scalp massage and hand/arm massage as well!  When I was sadly finished, Katie got her turn.  While she was basking in the glory of Wicked, I went to a used book store and found two copies of I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb to send to the book winners!

The rest of Saturday afternoon was spent walking through the trade show.  We found the usual: sorting sticks and jeans.  John was able to meet up with his friend Josh for a little while.  The Cowboy Bar wasn’t really happening, but I did get to see my friend Fuzz and his girlfriend Steph.  I love seeing friends who I have not seen in a while. That evening we dined at Botticelli’s Italian restaurant.  It was very romantic.  It made me remember all the reasons I love John.  We enjoyed good conversation and a lot of laughs.  After dinner, we walked back to the civic center.  Two ladies, probably around 50, joined us for a while.  I like meeting new people and listening to other people’s stories.  The stock show is a great place to meet new people.

On Sunday, we packed up and went to pick up Chester.  Chester and Norman were very sad to say good-bye to each other.  They were both worn out, and Chet slept the entire way back to the ranch.  John drove out to Rapid, so I drove home.  I would have loved to curl up and sleep, but I guess it’s only fair that I do my share of the driving.

More stories from the weekend to come.  Have a blessed weekend!
