My Parents are Coming, My Parents are Coming!

The Mother and Big Daddy are making the trip “all that way” to the ranch tomorrow.  My mom visited in October, but my dad has not been up here for about a year and a half.  The first time they made the five hour journey was the weekend I moved up here.  My dad could not believe: that it took so long to get here, the lack of radio stations, and why anyone would want to live up here in the middle of nowhere.  Silly dad!  I moved to the country to marry my cowboy! Duh!

Maybe I am a freak, but I talk to my parents almost every day.  My husband finds this a little humorous.  He can go several days, sometimes weeks, without talking to his parents.  But, I grew up spending a lot of time with my mom, dad, and sister, and I miss them.  In high school, my sister and I spent the majority of our evenings together.  Then, when Mom and Dad came home, we ate dinner and watched Entertainment Tonight together.  In our family, major decisions were not generally made without a family discussion.  Or, when I would throw a fit and cry about boys, friends, or the unfairness of life, Dad would find me in my room to talk, or I would venture to the shop to seek his counsel.  Although my dad is a manly man who works on cars and home remodeling projects (and has an obsession with celebrity gossip), he is mighty good with words.  He is really loving and wise, but is not afraid to tell the truth.

I am very excited to have my parents up here for the weekend.  I ordered steaks from Omaha Steak Company, so hopefully the weather is good enough to fire up the grill.  We have no plans except to hang out.  I love hanging out and talking with my mom.  She is a whack job, and I mean that in the most loving way possible.  She is such a sweet, loving, caring woman.  At first glance, you would think she was fairly innocent.  However, try telling her a dirty joke.  She has the punch line finished before the joke teller even has introduction finished.

Please keep your fingers crossed and say a couple prayers that the weather stays nice.  My dad is a huge baby about driving in bad weather.

I hope you have a family friendly weekend, too!

  1. I am so happy for you. Family time is the best!!! Last night we had an evening with just our kids and us and it was wonderful, even in a bad situation. Sounds like the weather will be good for them to have to travel alllllllllll that way across South Dakota! haha. Have fun!
